The Belonging Project

Nurturing an inclusive future.

What’s it all about?

In January 2020, we launched the Belonging Project, conducting over 100 interviews globally with a diverse range of people. Our research reaffirmed our core belief: organizations that create a strong sense of Belonging are more successful – in business, staff satisfaction and longevity. “Belonging” isn’t a buzzword. It is the proven cornerstone of success.

How do we better support clients in retaining exceptional diverse talent? We help them cultivate Belonging.

Belonging is the need to be included by those around you, and it is critical for future leaders – and their businesses – to thrive.

Deep senses of Belonging give rise to a massive 56% increase in job performance and a substantial 50% drop in turnover risk.*

In January 2020, we launched the Belonging Project. We conducted over 100 interviews globally. We spoke with people across genders, ages, races, ethnicities, LGBTQ+ communities and to people with disabilities.

Our research reaffirmed our core belief: organizations that create a strong sense of Belonging are more successful – in business, staff satisfaction and longevity.

This insight enables us to equip clients with practical tools to help new employees establish a sense of Belonging.

It also helps us prepare candidates to successfully navigate new corporate cultures. If they are struggling to Belong, we can help, and together, rectify why.

“Belonging” isn’t a buzzword. It is the proven cornerstone of success.

At Hedley May, a successful placement goes beyond an accepted job offer. We help new employees integrate, thrive and Belong in a new environment. We make introductions within the business. And we identify potential mentors – internally and externally – to help coach and champion a new appointee in their role.
